Alan Hill and I worked together at Shurgard Europe from the time he joined us in 1998 as a UK Development Manager until the time I returned to the US in 2003. Although, as President of Shurgard Europe, I was responsible for overall operations and expansion in 7 different countries, Alan and I worked closely together in the selection and underwriting of sites in the London market, a critical one for Shurgard Europe. Alan was a key member of our team there and during his tenure helped to deliver a first-class network of stores/investments. He accomplished this despite a competitive real estate market where our product was relatively unknown. His diligence, innovative approach and strong connections in the sector were a significant component of this success. A valued member of staff whose amiable nature enabled him to integrate well with his European and American colleagues, Alan Hill was entrusted with our vision and effectively adapted our American model to the English market.

I’ll never watch another important Football game involving Manchester United together with Alan again, already did once and it was crazy. Had to buy a new suit after that. Believe it or not, they won the Champions league that night. What would of happened if they’d lost?
